Paralegal – Civil Litigation

Seeking experienced paralegal for our Avon location.  While highly professional, our culture “behind the scenes” is very congenial and relaxed.  Our average employee tenure is seventeen+ years and every employee is viewed as an integral member of the Team that serves our valued clients.  We work very hard but enjoy the company of our co-workers at our annual Team Day luncheon (AWESOME food), Holiday Party (sometimes hosted at the home of one of our attorneys), and quarterly “happy” hours after-hours.  We employ 30 attorneys and 40 support staff with offices in Avon and Sandusky.  Our Firm is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Position Information:

  • M-F 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; overtime as necessary
  • Non-exempt
  • Salary commensurate with experience
  • Health insurance, Group Life Insurance, voluntary dental, vision, disability, and additional life insurance.  401(k) after six months of employment
  • Dress code for this position is business casual with a strong emphasis on “business.”


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), paralegal  degree and/or certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience in civil litigation required, with 10+ years strongly preferred
  • Ability to perform each job duty (with or without reasonable accommodation)
  • Possession of each competency and factor

Job Duties:

  • Compose, proof, edit and finalize documents including but not limited to: correspondence, pleadings, position statements, deposition notices, subpoena, summons, journal entries, discovery pleadings, settlement documents, motions, and other documents
  • Communicate by phone and in person with clients, agencies, courts, and internal and external attorneys and professionals to exchange information and to execute documents with or without attorneys present
  • Interpret and implement rules and procedures of civil and local courts and governmental agencies
  • Perform computer and manual legal research and prepare memoranda detailing findings; perform Internet research; Shepardize cases
  • Review and analysis of documents and compile information therefrom
  • Organize, index, and screen documents for production including control numbering
  • Trial preparation (all phases), including attendance and assistance at trial
  • Conduct all duties in compliance with all laws and legal ethics
  • Perform other tasks as assigned


  • Must have strong computer skills including MS Office 2016 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat Professional, Windows 10, and Internet Explorer.  Our Firm uses legal practice management software called Prolaw for which we will provide training
  • Must be comfortable and competent working in a structured environment with many established and highly specific procedures
