PRACTICE AREA: Corporate & Business Transactions
A founding member of Wickens Herzer Panza, Dave Herzer has brought vision, function, spirit, integrity, and commitment to this Firm. Once the Firm's President and CEO (1971-2011), a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, and the Chairperson of the Corporate and Business Transactions Department, Dave has since stepped down from his management responsibilities to focus exclusively on client legal matters.
Dave provides counsel to attorneys and clients of the Firm in all areas of corporate law and business tax law, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, and business succession planning. He serves on the boards of several area corporations and civic organizations. Dave is highly regarded in Lorain County and surrounding communities: Inside Business magazine recognized Dave as a Leading Lawyer for 2008, and Leadership Lorain County recognized him for his outstanding service and volunteerism as an honoree for the 2009 Award for Excellence in Leadership.
Martindale-Hubbell has awarded Dave an AV rating for preeminent legal ability and having the highest ethical standards.

What are your hobbies, interests, or talents outside of law?
Family (especially, now grandchildren), physical fitness, sports (especially the Guardians), current events (national and international), and literature regarding macro and micro economics.
Why did you begin practicing in your area of law?
I was an Economics major in college, was awarded a Marshal Scholarship to study Economics for 2-3 years at the London School of Economics (which I turned-down to attend law school), and almost chose business school over law school…..So I have always been interested in business and Economics, which naturally gravitated me to the practice corporate, tax and business law with Wickens Herzer Panza.
What is a personal accomplishment you are proud of?
The personal accomplishment of which I am most proud is the creation of a vision and concept (previously thought to be impossible for Lorain County) of a multi-specialty, regionally significant law firm and the attraction of an initial and subsequent teams of outstanding professionals and staff to realize upon, develop, and provide successors to maintain that vision.
What quote resonates with you?
”You don’t have to be an obstreperous ‘son-of-a-gun’ to be a good lawyer.”
— This quote from a very famous and successful lawyer with whom I worked early in my career has been one of the guiding principles for the manner in which I have practiced law over my career.
